Services Held for Tommy Johnston
Tommy Johnston, 65, of Eldora, a longtime resident of Baxter community, died Tuesday, February 3, at Reinbeck.
Funeral services were Saturday at the Congregational United Church in Baxter.
The Rev. T. A. Thompson, retired pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial was in Restland Cemetery in Baxter.
Boyd-Nickell Funeral Home in Baxter handled arrangements.
Survivors are his wife, Margaret; two sons, Tom L. of Wahoo, Neb., and Wendell of Manhatten Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Carol) Jontz of Baxter and Mrs. Dennis (Janice) Lynch of Fort Collins, Colo.; two brothers, Norman of Baxter and Andrew of Collins; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Jontz of Baxter and Mrs. Robina Holtsclaw of Baxter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Johnston was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational in Baxter.
He had been employed by the Lawn Hill Co-op, retiring in 1975.
The son of Robert and Isabelle Galloway Johnston, he was born July 5, 1910 in Baxter and attended Baxter schools.
He was married to Margaret Orr Nov. 29, 1934 in Baxter.
Mr. Johnston also had resided in the Marshalltown, New Providence and Whitten communities.
Organist – Mrs. Donald Akins.
Pallbearers: Donnell Johnston, Eddie Jontz, Bill Colyn, Eddie Orr, Gene Stock and Gary Pyle.
