Oscar D. Runyan Died June 26th at Des Moines
Oscar D. Runyan, 79, former resident of Colfax, died Friday, June 26th at the Des Moines General Hospital after a three week illness.
Mr. Runyan had resided at Bondurant since 1938 and operated the Bondurant hardware store with his son, Ray. He was mayor of Bondurant during World War II and later operated Oscar’s Gun and Fix It Shop. He was a member of the Altoona Masonic Lodge No. 407.
Mr. Runyan was born at Mason City, Neb., moved to Colfax and then to Newton where he was employed at the Maytag Company for 18 years. He served as night policeman while residing at Colfax.
Survivors include his wife, Jennie; three sons, Ralph, of Tipton, Ray of Bondurant and Ivan of Ames; three daughters, Mrs. Francis Crawford, Mrs. Hubert Butler and Mrs. Harvey Lewis, all of Bondurant; a sister, Mrs. Lydia Hodgson of Des Moines; a brother, Gilbert, of Grand Rapids, Mich., 20 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bondurant Christian church. Burial was in the Bondurant Cemetery.
