Glen Smith Dies Sunday at Des Moines
James "Glen" Smith 71, a resident of this city since 1947 died Sunday night, Feb. 9th in the Veterans Hospital at Des Moines. He had entered the hospital Wednesday of last week. Mr. Smith had been in poor health the past 6 months.
The son of William Edward Smith and Belle Neighbor Smith, he was born February. 8, 1893 at Baxter.
He attended country school at Baxter.
Mr. Smith was married to Arminda Teed, Feb. 11, 1918 at Des Moines. In 1930 he moved from near Baxter to the Valeria area and in 1947 came to make his home in Colfax. His occupation was farming.
He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign War.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Delmar. Sept. 1, 1955, his parents, three brothers and seven sisters.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters Mrs. Lillian Owens of Newton and Mrs. Janetta Christensen of Des Moines: five sons, Wayne, Leo, Darvin and Norman, all of Colfax and Harold of Grass Valley, Calif. and 16 grandchildren. Also surviving him are five sisters, Mrs. Audrey Anderson of Sacramento Calif., Mrs. Zena Drezga of Grass Valley, Calif., Mrs. Jennie Munnell and Mrs. Jessie Dickenson, both of Los Angeles, Calif. and Mrs. Vergil Hennaman of Marshalltown.
Funeral services will be held Thursday (today) at Walters Funeral Home at 2:p.m. Rev. Dale Nicholson, minister of the Colfax Methodist Church will conduct the services.
Singing will be by Mrs. Darrold Hunter and Miss Mable Kaldenberg. Mrs. Frank B. Evans will be the accompanist.
Bearers: Thomas Owens, Charles O'Roake, Richard Butt, Wilber Hunter, James Field and Gerald Zachary.
Flower committee: Mrs. Loren Clark and Mrs. Richard Butt.
Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery. Graveside rites will be by Jones-Willis Legion Post of Colfax.
