C. M. Henderson Dies Monday at Home
Charles Mac Henderson, 85, died Monday, November 26th, 1962 at 5:15 p.m. at his home in Colfax.
Mr. Henderson suffered a stroke August 25th, and although having regained strength for a time, his condition became worse 3 weeks ago and he had been bedfast for the past week.
The son of Charles B. and Amanda Henderson, he was born November 11 1877 in a log cabin at Adrian, Missouri. He spent his boyhood in Missouri and on February 13, 1907 was married to Nora Curtis at Butler, Missouri. The couple made their home in Missouri until moving to Greencastle, Iowa, in March of 1917. Mr. Henderson worked as a farm hand for Milo Smith until 1927 when the family moved into Colfax. He began working then at the Newton foundry where he was employed until his retirement at 79 years of age. Mr. Henderson was the father of thirteen children, all of whom survive him.
Mr. Henderson was a member of the Colfax Baptist church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters and 7 grandchildren.
Left to mourn his death are his wife, Nora, seven sons, Harold of Mingo, Audrey of El Monte, Calif., Lloyd of Colfax, Frank of the U.S.A.F. and stationed at Omstead AFB, Pa., Curtis of Newton, Jr. Mac of Colfax and Wayne of Altoona; six daughters, Mrs. Carl (Noma) Leonard of Mingo, Mrs. Don (Celestine) Annis of Newton, Mrs. Marion (Emily) Myers of Prairie City, Mrs. Beulah Rush of Des Moines, Mrs. Alvin (Dorothy) Knapp of Causey, New Mexico and Mrs. Gloyd (Colene) Elrod of Burbank, Calif. Also 46 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two brothers, Virgil of La Cygne, Kans. and Walter of Newton; three sisters, Mrs. Alice Ganther of Lake Ozark, Mo., Mrs. Ida Criswell of Adrian, Mo., and Mrs. Lena Runyan of Colfax.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Baptist Church in Colfax. Rev. Marlow Reinholdt conducted the services.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Gene Leonard, soloist and Mrs. Frank B. Evans, organist.
