Mrs. Jack Stremfel Died Thursday in California
Mrs. Jack Stremfel, 71, a longtime resident of the Colfax community, died Thursday at the home of her son, Joseph, in La Canada, California. Mrs. Stremfel had only recently gone to the west coast for a visit.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Dolinsek, she was born May 16, 1889 in Yugoslavia and came to this country when 18 years of age. Shortly afterward, the family moved to Colfax, which has since been her home.
Mrs. Stremfel was united in marriage to Jacob Phillip (Jack) Stremfel August 25, 1907 in Des Moines. Left to mourn her passing are four sons, John, Frank and Arthur all of Colfax and Joseph of La Canada; five daughters, Mrs. Nick Leydens and Mrs. Earl Bale of Colfax; Mrs. Don Williams of Newton, Mrs. Bernard Smith of Buffalo Center and Mrs. Walter Crawford of Gary, Indiana. Twenty three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, along with her brothers, Bill and Fred Dolinsek of Lincoln, Ill., and Frank Dolinsek of San Diego, California, and one sister, Mary, of Peoria, Ill., also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter Margaret.
Mrs. Stremfel was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in this city and the Coatian Lodge in Des Moines.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning, July 12th at 9:00 from the Catholic Church in Colfax with Rev. Thomas L. Sanner officiating. Rosary and graveside rites were conducted by Father Karl Holtkamp of the local church. Mass was sung by members of the Salvatorian Novitiate.
Bearers were John Bolen, John Gay, Rick Susic, Emery Tomlonovic, John Tomlonovic and Vincent Tomlonovic.
Flower committee – Mrs. Leonard Lunders and Mrs. John Tomlonovic.
Burial was in the Colfax cemetery.
Among out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral services Tuesday for Mrs. John Stremfel were Mr. and Mrs. John Gay of West Union, Mrs. Otillia Gay and Misses Valerie and Mary Gay, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Shepard and Joseph, Mrs. Ted Scarborough, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Sanner of Des Moines, Joe Pugel of Madrid, Bill and Fred Dolinsek of Lincoln, Ill., Mrs. Mary Johnson of Peoria, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Agar of Lima, Ohio, Mrs. Wm. Boothroy of Mitchellville, Donald Wilson of Waukegan, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Leo Sanner and Paul of Farley, Iowa and Mrs. Jennie Lang of Grinnell, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Fitzgerald of Melbourne, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Goaley of Chicago, Ill., Loren Koppe of Buffalo Center, Mrs. Conrad Leydens, Clarence Leydens, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Berry and Father Edward Susic all of Newton, Father Dennis Cahalan of Oskaloosa, Mr. and Mrs. Oren Vanderhaar, Mitchellville, Elizabeth Duich and Mrs. Maurice Moffitt of Des Moines and Tommy Moore of San Leandro, Calif.
