Funeral Services Held Saturday For Colfax Couple
Joint funeral services were held in this city Saturday afternoon for Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Normandin, long-time residents of Colfax, who died within two days of each other last week.
Catherine May Jones was born at Deer Park, Illinois January 25, 1894, the daughter of David and Catherine Jones. She passed away at their home in Colfax of a cerebral hemorrhage on Tuesday, April 26th, 1960 at the age of 66 years, 3 months and 1 day.
Milton Edward Normandin was born on a farm near Ellsworth, Ia., on September 26, 1890, the son of George Edward Normandin and Lillian Potter Normandin. He passed to his reward April 28, 1960 at the Skiff hospital in Newton, of pneumonia at the age of 69 years, 7 months and 2 days.
Catherine Jones and Milton Normandin were united in marriage December 17, 1912 at Streator, Ill. They leave to mourn their passing two daughters, Mrs. William (Lillian) White of Macksburg, Ia., and Mrs. Jasper (Hazel) Miller of Des Moines, Iowa; two sons, Verne L. Normandin of Colfax and Charles D. Normandin of Des Moines, Ia.; 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild. One son, Lyle M. preceded them in death in 1934. Also mourning their passing are two brothers of Catherine, Joseph E. Jones of Morris, Ill., and David L. Jones of Paw Paw, Michigan. Mrs. Normandin was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Surviving Mr. Normandin are four sisters, Mrs. Mervyn Newport of Hampton, Ia.; Mrs. Charles Ervin of Boone, Iowa; Mrs. Joseph R. Jones of Morris, Ill., and Mrs. Harry Langert of Big lake, Minn., and a half-brother, Robert E. Normandin of Waterloo, Iowa. He was preceded in death by four sisters.
Mr. and Mrs. Normandin farmed near Ellsworth and LuVerne, Ia., until 1929 when they moved to Colfax where they have made their home since.
They were both members of the Colfax Christian Church.
Funeral services were conducted from the Christian Church Saturday afternoon, April 30th at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Neville G. Clayton, pastor, officiating.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Jas. Still and Larry White, soloists with Mrs. Lee Schmitt, organist.
Bearers were Frank Annis, Carl Dick, Lloyd Henderson Floyd Thompson, William Wade, Sr. and George Wall.
Flower committee – Mrs. Frank Annis, Mrs. Kenneth Faidley, Mrs. Vernon Stodden and Mrs. Dick Williams.
Burial was in the McKeever cemetery north of Colfax.
