Roy Hobbs Dies; Services Will Be Here Saturday
George LeRoy Hobbs, 59, Newton area farmer for the past 12 years, died about 5:15 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at Skiff Memorial Hospital. He had been in poor health since suffering a stroke last May.
Mr. and Mrs. Hobbs sold their farm south of Newton about a week ago and were planning to move to Newton because of Mr. Hobbs’ health.
Funeral services will be at two o’clock Saturday afternoon at the Morgan Funeral Home. Rev. J. Wilfred Walker, pastor of the First Christian, will officiate. Burial will be in the Newton Union cemetery.
Mr. Hobbs was born Dec. 23, 1889, in Unionville, Mo. He was the son of George and Anna Hobbs. He received his education in the public schools of Unionville.
On March 20, 1915, he married Katie Vashti Allbee in a ceremony at Unionville. They made their home in Missouri until moving to near Newton 12 years ago.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, LaVerne, Wyndall and John Hobbs, all of Newton; two daughters, Mrs. C. L. Myrick and Mrs. Kenneth Hummel, both of Newton; three brothers, Walter Hobbs of Newton and Alton and Ralph Hobbs of Gilman, and six grandchildren.

Services for Roy Hobbs Tomorrow
Funeral services for George LeRoy Hobbs, 59, Newton area farmer who died late Wednesday afternoon, will be held at two o’clock Saturday at the Morgan Funeral Home.
Rev. J. Wilfred Walker, pastor of the First Christian church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Palo Alto cemetery south of Newton.
Mr. Hobbs is survived by his wife, three sons, two daughters, three brothers and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Curtis Hobbs; one sister, Mary, and two other twin brothers who died in infancy.
