Mrs. Jennie Baty, Newton Resident 60 Years, Dies
Mrs. Jennie R. Baty, 83, a resident of Newton for the past 60 years and a member of the The Daily News Three-Quarter Century club, passed away at two o’clock yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alvira Cox, in Newton.
Funeral services will be held at the Toland Funeral Home at 2:30 o’clock Wednesday afternoon. Rev. I. R. Bowers, pastor of the Full Gospel curch, will officiate at the services and burial will be in the Palo Alto cemetery.
Mrs. Maurice Rodgers, soloist, will sing “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “In the Garden,” accompanied by Mrs. Paul Murdy at the organ. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Baty is survived by two sons, Roy Baty of Newton and Clyde Baty of Newton and three daughters, Mrs. Mildred Baty of Huston, Mo., Mrs. Aerial Baty of Lincoln, Neb., and Mrs. Cox of Newton and several grandchildren.
Mrs. Baty, the daughter of Joseph and Lucenda Taylor, was born Aug. 14, 1865 in a log cabin on the Des Moines river near Pella.
She moved to Jasper county in 1888 and has resided in Newton every since.
