Jane Hurl Rites Today
Longtime Resident Of County; Died At Kellogg Saturday
Kellogg – (Special to The Daily News) – Funeral services were held from the Morgan Funeral home at 2 o’clock this afternoon for Mrs. Jane Hurl, 88, who died shortly after noon on Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Louis Peterson, in Kellogg.
Jane Hamilton was born in Greencastle, Ia., May 31, 1859, and attended the rural schools of Jasper county. She was married to William E. Hurl of Prairie City and the greater part of her life was spent in Newton.
Her husband was killed in a railroad accident in Aurora, Ill., in 1902 and for the past 27 years she has made her home with the Petersons.
Mrs. Hurl was in unusually good health for one of her advanced years, and was very active until about eight weeks ago when she fell, breaking her arm.
She joined the First Methodist church early in life and retained her membership all through the years.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Louis Peterson of Kellogg, Mrs. Eva Phillips of Frederickstown; also a granddaughter, Alice Jane Peterson of Kellogg, grandsons, Ed McLarnan of Davenport, Percy McLarnan of Lexington, O., Allan Rae and Owen Keith Phillips of Fredericktown, O.; two great granddaughters, Nancy Jane McLarnan of Ohio and Linda Lou McLarnan, Davenport, a niece, Mrs. Hal Cobbs of Newton; and nephews, T. E. and L. R. McKeever of Newton.
The Rev. C. D. Pinkard of the Kellogg Methodist church officiated at the services. Mrs. Earl Trout, accompanied by Mrs. D. R. Foster, sang “Shall We Gather At the River” and “Will There Be Any Stars in My Crown.”
Pallbearers were T. E. McKeever, L. R. McKeever, Bruce Parsons, Dr. F. S. Hill, Don R. Foster and M. G. Guessford. Mrs. Bruce Parsons and Mrs. Howard Kidd were in charge of the flowers.
Interment was made in Newton Union cemetery.
