E. P. Grant, 79, Succumbs
Lifelong Resident Of This Community; Dies At His Home
Edward P. Grant, 79, died at his home, 621 East Fifth Street North at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday night following a lingering illness of six months.
Mr. Grant was born Oct. 10, 1866 in Springvale, Wisc., and would have been a resident of Newton for the past 59 years, living at the same residence continuously since that time.
He was employed as section foreman on the Rock Island and in the Rock Island office in Newton for more than 30 years. He was later employed at the Maytag company and was retired from that position after 18 years of service.
Mr. Grant was a member of the First Methodist church and at the time of his death was a trustee of the church. He has been a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge since 1908 and was clerk of the Woodman of the World for more than 35 years.
He was married to Miss Lottie Egger, May 15, 1889 at Casey, Iowa, with whom he celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1939 and the 57th anniversary this year.
Survivors include his widow, two sons, Vernon of Newton and Floyd of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Willis E. Grant of Newton and Mrs. Vivian Schenck of Omaha, also three great-grandchildren, Nancy, Phillip and David Schenck of Omaha; and one brother, A. W. Grant of Santa Barbara, Calif.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete, pending word from the brother.

Ed. Grant Funeral Rites At Methodist Church Friday
Funeral services for Edward P. Grant will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. from the First Methodist church with the Rev. Dr. E. A. Briggs officiating.
Interment will be made in Newton Union cemetery.
Mr. Grant died at his home Tuesday evening, following a six monoths illness.
The I.O.O.F. will present the ritualistic services at the church. He has been a member of that organization since 1908.
