Dies From Diphtheria
Excellent Young Lady Suddenly Called by Dread Disease
Miss Jeanetta Hughes, seventeen year old daughter of Ben Hughes and wife died Sunday evening from diphtheria after a few days illness. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon and there was held short services at the cemetery, conducted by Rev. Wikoff, pastor of the Christian church.
The deceased was a very popular young lady with a large circle of friends. She leaves to mourn for her, her parents, one sister, six brothers and many friends.

Card of Thanks – Jeanett Hughes was born at Evans, Iowa, Mahaska county, December 9, 1899, moved with her parents to Colfax nine years last October.
Died at Colfax February 26, 1917, at the age of 17 years, 3 months and 17 days. She left to mourn her loss father and mother, six brothers, one sister, little niece and nephew, Maurine and Raymond Barron. By them she will always be remembered as a loving daughter and sister.
We extend our thanks to our many friends and neighbors and the telephone operators for the kindness shown us at the death of our darling daughter and sister and also for the beautiful floral offerings. – Parents and Family.
