Louis Gearhart [sic-Gerhart] died at his home five miles and a half northwest of town last evening, March 18, 1907. For the past two years he has been in poor health but the cause of his death was typhoid fever and neuralgia.

Louis Gearhart was born in Boden, Germany, May 7, 1858, and at his death was forty-eight years, 10 months and 11 days of age. He was married to Miss Johanna Hildebrand June 17, 1880. They came to America June 17, 1882 and settled in Muscatine, but the next year moved to Jasper County, where they have since made their home.

Five children were born of this union. Louis, who is married and lives north of Newton, William, who is also married and with his brothers, Fred and Charles and Anna makes his home with his parents.

Loved ones cared for him during his illness and everything was done to relieve his suffering but it was of no avail, and death brought him relief.

The funeral will be held from the Sugar Grove Church west of town Thursday at 1 o’clock, Rev. W. Dieffenbach of the Lutheran Church will have charge of the services. Then interment will be in the Metz Cemetery. ~ The Newton Daily News, Tuesday, March 19, 1907, Page 1, Column 4
