Robert R. Guthrie Dies In Hospital
Funeral Services Will be Held Saturday at First Presbyterian Church
Robert Richard Guthrie, only son of Vern Guthrie of this city, died this morning at 8 o’clock at the Skiff Memorial hospital following an operation yesterday morning. He was eight years old.
In some way unknown to his parents the child sustained infection and blood poisoning. It was thought that when he fell from his bicycle last Tuesday that he bruised the hip bone to some extent as he complained and limped some but did not seem to be ill until Saturday. He was taken to the hospital Monday morning where everything possible was done to save his life and a specialist was called from Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the First Presbyterian church with the Rev. W. R. Moore in charge of the rites. Burial will be made in the Palo Alto cemetery.
Robert Richard Guthrie was born Oct. 22, 1918, in Ames, Ia., and had lived in Newton most of his life. He belonged to the primary department of the First Presbyterian Sunday school and was ready for the fourth grade at Lincoln where he attended school.
He is survived by his father, Vern Guthrie, his mother, Mrs. Agnes Kearns of Marshalltown, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Clements of Shell Lake, Wis., and a grandmother, Mrs. A. T. Guthrie of this city. He is also survived by his step-mother, Mrs. Jennie Guthrie; and two uncles, Frank and Stuart Guthrie, of this city.
