Local Girl Dies Suddenly Today

Dorothy Marie Benjamin, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Benjamin, 702 West Eight street North, died suddenly this morning about 9:15 o'clock at the Skiff Memorial hospital. Miss Benjamin submitted to an operation for appendicitis in the hospital on Monday. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Christian church in charge of Dr. G. C. Williams.

Dorothy Marie Benjamin was born in the Palo Alto township on a farm south of town, July 1, 1910. During her early school days she attended the Brick school. The Benjamins have been residents in Newton for the last four and one-half years.

She attended the Newton high school and would have entered school this fall in the senior class. She was a student in the Commercial department at high school and was an active member of the Girl Reserves. She was also a member of the C.C.C. club of which she was secretary and treasurer and was president of the M.I.W. club, both social organizations here. She was a member of the local Christian church. On Saturday and special days she worked at the Montgomery Ward and company store.

Miss Benjamin is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Benjamin, three sisters, Ruth, Doris and Helen and five brothers, Leonard, Lawrence, Clyde, Dale and Donald. Donald Benjamin was a twin brother of Dorothy's.

Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church in this city yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock for Miss Dorothy Benjamin, who died suddenly Wednesday morning at 9:15 o'clock. The funeral address was delivered by Dr. George C. Williams, pastor of the Congregational church of this city. Burial was in the Newton cemetery.

Pallbearers were Clifford Messick, Fred Good, Edd Good, Robert Good, John Minear and Ted McIntosh. Music was furnished by Ernest L. Earley of Newton.
