MARTIN BEASON, 81, SUCCUMBS DURING AIRLINE FLIGHT

Martin G. Beason, 81, of Grinnell, died Saturday on an airplane while enroute to California. Death was the result of a heart attack. Mr. Beason had been visiting a son in Detroit, Mich., and was going to visit relatives in California. He suffered the attack while the plane was over Nebraska and was dead on arrival at Denver, Colo. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the James-Schalinske Funeral Home. Interment will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. Mr. Beason made his home at 1012 West St. here and was a retired employee of the Iowa State Highway Commission. He is survived by his, daughter, Mrs. Leona Breeden of Manchester; and five sons, Harold of Afton, Lloyd of Norwalk, Calif., Glenn of Livonia, Mich., and Donald of Oskaloosa. His wife, Nancy, preceded him in death.

RITES HELD THIS AFTERNOON FOR MARTIN BEASON
Martin Beason

Funeral services for Martin Gilbert (Bert) Beason, 81, of Grinnell, were held this afternoon (Thursday) from the James-Schalinske Funeral Home. He suffered a heart attack Saturday while flying to California and was dead on arrival at Denver, Colo. Officiating at the services was the Rev. Roger Hake, pastor of the Lutheran church at Oskaloosa. Organ music was by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were Orville Foster, Richard Johnson, John Breeden, Russell Beason, Richard Beason and William Beason. Interment was in Hazelwood Cemetery. The son of Martin and Susan Beason, he was born Nov. 6th, 1881, in Mahaska county. He was united in marriage with Nancy M. Beeler on Oct. 16th, 1906. To this union were born eight children. A son, Floyd, and a daughter, Helen Louise, died in infancy. His wife, Nancy, died on Oct. 23rd, 1951. In early years of marriage he farmed at Blue Point and worked at various jobs in and around Grinnell. He was employed by the State Highway Commission for 28 years, retiring in October.
