M. Silwold Dies Today
Miss Mary Silwold, about 60, died this morning at 3:10 at the Skiff Memorial hospital where she had entered Thursday morning, after suffering a stroke.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 o’clock at the Morgan Funeral Home and at 3 o’clock at the St. John’s Evangelical church with interment following in the church cemetery.
Miss Silwold was born and reared on the old Silwold homestead in Malaka township.
This winter she had been staying with Mrs. Alta Ziegelmeier at Colfax.
Surviving are a brother, Fred of Newton, two nieces and two nephews, Mrs. Virgil Barcus of Newton, Mrs. Albert Bahr of Waukon, Ia., Carl Helming of Cedar Rapids and Harry Helming of Evanston, Ill.

Mary Silwold Services Held Here on Monday
Funeral services for Miss Mary Silwold, 63, who died Saturday morning at the Skiff Memorial hospital, were conducted Monday afternoon at the Morgan Funeral home and later at the St. John’s Evangelical church with the interment following in the church cemetery. Rev. A. L. Brueggeman was in charge of the service.
Pallbearers were George Loupee, Fred Hammier, Charles Korte, Charles Tait, Will Damman and John Boedaker. Flowers were arranged by Mrs. George Loupee, Mrs. George Bohne, Mrs. Will Damman and Alta Altemeier.
Choir Sings
Choir members of the St. John’s Evangelical church furnished the music “Think of the Home Over There”, Ivory Palaces” and “The End of the Road”.
Mary M. Silwold, daughter of Henry and Charlotte Silwold, was born on a farm in Jasper county, Ia.; nine miles north of Newton on May 24, 1877. This same farm was her home through all the days of her years.
She was baptized and confirmed in the St. John’s Evangelical church which was erected on a part of the Silwold farm. Here she was a faithful member not only of the church but also of the Sunday school and the Women’s Guild.
Visits in Colfax
During these winter months she was visiting in the home of an old friend in Colfax, where she became ill on the morning of March 6. She was taken to the Skiff Memorial hospital for treatment, but died March 8, 1941, at the age of 63 years, 9 months and 12 days.
Her parents, three sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
Surviving are a brother, Fred Silwold of Newton, two nieces, Mrs. Virgil Barcus of Newton, Mrs. Albert Bahr of Waukon, and two nephews, Harry F. Helming of Evanston, Ill., and Carl G. Helming of Cedar Rapids, Ia.
