March 5, 1938 ~ June 9, 2018 (Age 80)

Harold Ray Brown, 80, of Newton died on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 22, 2018, at the Newton Church of the Way. The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Mercy Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Hospital may be left at the church. The Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the cremation.

Harold, the son of Doyle and Rachel (Smith) Brown, was born on March 5, 1938 in Jasper County. He lived in Reasnor and Newton his entire life and graduated from Newton High School in 1956. Harold was united in marriage with Lois Buckalew on September 2, 1958 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Harold worked at the Maytag Company for 48 years as a Research and Development Technician. He was a long time Boy Scout Leader, attended the Newton Church of the Way, and had been a volunteer for the Reasnor Fire Department. Harold enjoyed woodworking and restoring old cars.

Harold is survived by his wife, Lois Brown of Newton; sons, Rod (Cindy) Brown of Newton, Kent (Jill) Brown of Panora, and Kyle (Terrie) Brown of Frisco, Texas; six grandchildren, Davis Linden, Grant (Carrie) Brown, Allison Brown (Randy Meyer), Kara (Nate) Milone, Benjamin Brown, and Zachary Brown; two great-grandchildren, Kaidin Brown and Talin Meyer; his siblings, Marilyn Schwartz of Newton and Duane (Grace) Brown of Colfax; two sisters-in-law, Lois Corrigan of Trenton, Missouri and Lenis Brown of Wisconsin; and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Brown; mother, Rachel Brewer; step-father, Merlin Brewer; two brothers, Floyd and Karl Brown; and a sister, Marie Vander Hart. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 09 June 2018.
