Joni Michele Dunkerson
March 22, 1953 ~ May 25, 2018

Joni Michele Dunkerson, 65, of Canon City, Colo., passed away May 25, 2018, after a brief but courageous battle with glioblastoma. She was born March 22, 1953, in Hastings, Neb., to Charles and Joan (Camp) Kelley and was a 1971 graduate of Widefield High School in Colorado Springs. In December 1974, Joni married Michael “Mike” Dunkerson and together they shared an active and happy life. She worked at Newton Manufacturing in Newton for more than 20 years, before retiring in 2012.

In 2013, Joni and Mike moved to Canon City, where Joni was a member of the Fremont Victory Quilters. Joni loved quilting; she was self-taught and preferred to quilt by hand. She was recently awarded a runner-up ribbon in the Colorado State Fair for one of her quilts. Joni loved animals and also enjoyed gardening and helping Mike with projects around the house and yard. She had a wonderful personality and a great sense of humor. She will be forever missed by those who knew and loved her.

Joni is survived by her husband, Mike of Canon City; her beloved grandchildren, Jordan Danks of Newton, and Alexis Bucklin of Ira; father, Charles Kelley of Colorado Springs; brother, Jon (Ramona) Kelley of Woodland Park, Colo.; numerous extended family members; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Joan Kelley; and an infant grandson.

At her request, cremation has taken place and no formal services will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Holt Family Funeral Home.
