Joy Lee went home to be with her Savior on Monday evening, May 7, 2018, under the care of Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.

A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 11, 2018 at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, with Rev Clayton Pickering, Newton Baptist Temple, officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Thursday, May 10, 2018, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Newton Baptist Temple Church, Mercy Hospice or to Joy Lee’s family, in her name.

Joy Lee Steinberger, 81, was born June 20, 1936, near Swan, Iowa, the daughter of Howard Cecil and Doris (Battles) Dunlavy. She was a graduate of the Monroe High School.

On June 30, 1956, Joy Lee was united in marriage to Darrell James Steinberger in Monroe. She was employed as a Physical Therapist, by Skiff Medical Center. Joy Lee enjoyed her family, helping Darrell on the farm, went with Darrell on those Iowa Tractor rides, enjoyed Cowboy Church, sewing, gardening, canning, cooking, her grandchildren’s activities and sharing with others about her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Newton Baptist Temple, was president of the Oakridge Homemakers and a past member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton. She was always praying for her family and friends.

Joy Lee is survived by her daughter Marcia (Scott) McAnally of Newton; son James (Lois) Steinberger of Altoona; her eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; her sisters and brothers: Larry (Barb) Dunlavy, Deanna (Don) Van Cleave, Kenneth (Fritz) Dunlavy and Zona (Buster) Green; her sisters-in-law: Mary J. “Mitzi” (Bob) Provin and Carolyn Ball; her nieces and nephews; and many good neighbors and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darrell on November 10, 2017; and a brother-in-law Robert Ball. ~ The Pence Reese Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa Mon 7 May 2018.
