The funeral services over the remains of Mrs. Sarah E. Saldridge was held yesterday afternoon from the Baptist Church, Rev. C. A. Tenny officiating. He was assisted in the service by a quartette from the church choir, which sang several hymns.
This sketch of her life was read at the beginning of the service by Rev. Tenny.
Mrs. Sarah Emma Saldridge was born November 12, 1832, at Dandridge, Tenn., where her youthful days were spent. She afterwards lived in Chicago, Ill., having married Mr. Saldridge about forty years ago. It was a very happy union and she has deeply mourned him since his departure sixteen years ago.
For about thirty-six years she has lived in our midst, well and favorable known to a large circle of friends. For several years she has not been well and about three months ago she became bedridden and has slowly passed into a decline. She died December 14, 1906, at the age of seventy-four.
Her life has been a busy one. She was always bright, intelligent and energetic and took an active interest in the world up to the last.
She was a kind and sympathetic friend. Since her girlhood she has been actively identified with church work during the past five years in this church. Her love for her Saviour was a great comfort to her in last illness. She was a good woman and a faithful Christian.
She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Minerva McGowen and Mrs. Louise Clark, and a brother, Mr. Robert Locke. There are also two grandchildren, offspring of the only child our departed raised to maturity, who was Mrs. Mary Williams Fry. The two grandchildren are John H. Fry, of Grand Junction, Colo., and Miss Emma D. Fry of Denver, Colo.; the latter cared for her grandmother in this last illness. ~ The Newton Daily News, Tuesday, December 18, 1906, Page 2, Column 4
