Last night about seven o’clock occurred the death of Wilbur Fowles, son of Mrs. Dexter Fowles, who resides southeast of Colfax several miles.

His death coming suddenly as it does is a very great blow to the mother, who depended on this son since the death of her husband, which occurred just two years ago today, and the death of her son, Frank, last June of heart failure.

Mr. Fowles noticed a week ago last Sunday, after he shaved, a small pimple on his chin, which seemed quite sore. He spoke about it to his mother but it was not until several days later that he went to Colfax and consulted a physician. The doctor said he thought it nothing serious, but that it might develop into a carbuncle.

On Thursday, finding the sore very painful and feeling a little alarmed, they phoned for the physician to come out to the home. He did not come until Friday afternoon. By that time he realized immediately that it was a serious case of blood poisoning. A physician and nurse from Des Moines were called, and later a nurse from Colfax came, but it was too late to help the poor sufferer and he passed away last night after great suffering.

Deceased has two sisters residing here, Mesdames Will Johnson and Arthur Ogburn, who were at his bedside when he died.

It is a great sorrow fooling so closely the loss of other dear ones of the family, but especially so to the dear mother, who is now so sadly bereft.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at 1 o’clock from the home. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Wednesday, December 19, 1906, Page 1, Column 5
