Miss Amy Cavenaugh, after an illness of five weeks of typhoid fever, passed away this morning a little before five o’clock. She was taken sick about five weeks ago while caring for typhoid patients in the Charles Bishop home four miles northwest of Baxter, and was brought immediately to the home of her sister, Mr. W. O. McElroy in this city. Such care and attention as the best medical skill and nursing could give was hers, as well as loving attention from the members of this family who loved her well, but it was of no avail. Her system was weakened by over anxiety and nursing and the ravages of the fever held her captive, until death released her spirit form the tired sick body.
Miss Cavenaugh had many friends here who esteemed her for her many beautiful traits of character, for she was one who had only pity for those who toiled and great love for those who suffered.
She will be missed so much by her dear aged parents and others of their immediate family circle, which for the first time is entered by death. But perhaps none regret her demise more than those whom she has tenderly nursed and cared for, and the physicians with whom she has worked and who held her in such high esteem. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, IA, Monday, November 12, 1906, Page 1, Column 3
