WALLACE, ROBISON, GOTCHELL, GAST

This afternoon the remains of Mary Ann Robison was laid to rest in the Newton Cemetery by the side of her husband, whose death occurred about 12 years ago.

The funeral, which was conducted by Rev. W. Dieffenbach of the First Lutheran Church, was held from the home of her son, Charles Robison 500 West Main Street. Music was furnished by a quartette, Mrs. D. J. Eberhart, Miss Ora Bess Meredith, Ben Woodrow and Hugh Seeberger, who were accompanied by Mrs. C. F. Fisk. Those acting as pallbearers were A. Dennis, Thomas Kennedy, J. B. Sitler, J. W. Edge and A. J. Cheniworth.

Mrs. Robison’s maiden name was Mary Ann Wallace. She was a native of Ireland but left that country when but twelve years of age in company with an uncle and aunt for America. After six months voyage they landed and went to Athens, Ohio, where she lived until coming to Iowa in 1862.

When fifteen years of age she was married to James Robison. Seven children were born to them, four of whom are living, two daughters and two sons. One daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Gotchell resides at Des Moines Mrs. Maggie Gast another daughter resides in Minnesota, John, a son, resides at Des Moines and Charles P. on West Main Street, at whose home the mother’s death occurred.

Mrs. Robison, while living in Ohio, united with the Baptist Church, but since coming to Iowa has not connected with any religious denomination.

Twenty-nine years ago the father and mother became inmates of the home of their son, Charles P. Robison at Prairie City and when the family removed to Newton twenty-two years ago, they come with them.

For the past two years the mother has had very poor health and for two months has been confined to her bed. Since last Saturday she has refused to take any nourishment or even water. The change came to her Thursday at 12 o’clock, when she passed away quietly into the unknown.

Those from out of town attending the funeral were her son, John Robison and daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Gotchall and a niece, Mrs. Clarence Wilkins of Des Moines. ~ The Newton Daily News, Saturday, August 18, 1906, Page 1, Column 4
