Sad Occurrence – Just too late for publication last week we learned of a sad occurrence terminating in loss of life in Clear Creek. Little Frankie, aged three and a half years, son of C. _. Coughlan, Esq., with a little brother, was playing with cobs and had some corn in his mouth. In running from one room to another, and probably laughing, some of the corn went into his throat, lodging in the windpipe. All attempts to relieve him proved unavailing, and after five or six days of terrible agony, it was determined to open the tube by an operation, which was done by Dr. Hunter of Newton and Dr. Ryan of Colfax. Temporary relief only was given, and the second day after the operation, the little sufferer expired. All that parental solicitude and surgical skill could do was insufficient to save his life. The parents have the sympathy of a large circle of friends. – Free Press.
