Erma Jean Schwab 1929-2005

Erma “Jean” Schwab, 76 of Newton formerly of Coralville died Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

There no services planned. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Coralville Public Library.

Erma “Jean” was born May 25, 1929 in Kinross, Iowa the daughter of Sherman and Ennice (Ballard) Polton. She married Ernest Schwab on March 6, 1948. The couple lived in Coralville since 1949. She attended Kinross Independent High School and moved on to Parsons College in Fairfield where she received her teaching certificate. She taught elementary school for eight years. In 1964 Jean helped start and became the director of the Coralville Library until her retirement in 1991.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest “Bud” Schwab of Newton, one son, Kevin Schwab of Iowa City, one daughter, Valerie Schwab Cook (Michael) of Baxter, IA, by one sister, Dorothy Foubert (William) of North English, IA and by one brother, Stanley Polton (Dottie) of Marengo, IA. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Dillon, Jessica and Ian.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Stephanie Schwab and one son, Brent Schwab. ~ The Lensing Funeral Home, Coralville, IA 24 Aug 2005.
