Irene I. Dodd Pierce, 94, of Newton died on Thursday, December 15, 2016 aat her home in Newton.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 22, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. December 22 at the Funeral Home.
Burial was at the McKeever Cemetery in rural Colfax.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Mercy Hospice; the memorials may be left at the funeral home. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home, please add, Attn: Pierce Family on the envelope.
Irene Ivagene Dodd Pierce, the daughter of Amos and Alpha I (Luing) Dodd was born on March 7, 1922, in rural Baxter, Iowa. She attended Baxter schools. On September 21, 1938, Irene was united in marriage with Donald W. “Shorty” Pierce in Bethany, Missouri. She was a farmer’s wife and homemaker. They made their home in the Mt. Zion area for 40 years; farming in the Colfax area until 1941 and farmed in the Mt. Zion area until 1978. Irene had also worked at the Maytag Dairy Farm in Newton, Iowa, and at the Pella Corporation in Pella, Iowa. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton and she was a former member of the Monroe United Methodist Church. She had also been a member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau.
Survivors are her brother-in-law, Darrell Dee of Baxter; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald “Shorty” in 1991; two brothers, Lloyd and Ernest Dodd; and seven sisters, Wilma Middleton, Dorothy Dodd, Cleora Allen, LoRena Wingers, Ruth Baxter, Shirley Dee and Emily Griggs.
