Miss Rebecca Jane Millen was born in West Virginia, July 5, 1837, and went with her parents in the year 1849 to Princeton, Ill., where in 1855 she was united in marriage to David Kaiser, and lived on a farm near Princeton, where four of her children were born. They were Belle, Emma, Alpharetta and William. Alpharetta lived but a short time, being but one and one-half years of age when she died.

In 1864 Mrs. Kaiser, together with her husband and three remaining children, came to Newton, Iowa, driving from Iowa City, which was then the terminus of the railroad.

Mrs. Kaiser lived in Newton until 1888. Her youngest daughter, Carrie, being born in this place.

In 1888 she went to Des Moines, remaining there until 1897, when she removed to Burlington, in which place the remainder of her life was spent until Saturday, July
21st, at 6:15 o’clock, when she succumbed to that dread disease, consumption, from which she had suffered for some time.

The remains were brought to this city Monday for interment in Newton Cemetery, accompanied by her son, William, and by her sister, Mrs. Mary Wild from Henry, Illinois.

Burial services were held in the Christian Church yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock, the Rev. E. F. Leak officiating.

Mrs. Kaiser was converted and joined the Christian Church while living in Illinois and ever after remained true to her convictions. Although she lived a busy industrious life, she always found time to minister to the sick and suffering. She believed that true Christianity meant practical service to brothers and sisters in distress.

Of her children but three are left to mourn her loss. Her daughter, Mrs. Belle Myers died in 1894, Mrs. Emma Hankins lives in Boulder, Colorado, Mrs. Carrie Parry lives in Fargo, North Dakota, and William, who is in the drug business in Burlington and with whom Mrs. Kaiser has long made her home. ~ The Newton Daily News, Tuesday, July 24, 1906, Page 1, Column 2
