Baxter – C. C. Cammack, 53, for a third of a century engaged in the garage business in Baxter and well known in Jasper county took his own life Monday evening while his wife was up town on an errand.
Mr. Cammack had been in ill health for about seven weeks, suffering with nerevousness. He had been up and around, friends said, but he did not seem in the best of health. Last Saturday he suffered a nervous breakdown and Monday he was taken to Des Moines for an examination by a nerve specialist. There he received the good news that all he needed was a rest.
He and Mrs. Cammack returned home late yesterday afternoon. About 8:30 o’clock last evening, Mrs. Cammack went up town for a short time. When she returned about 9:00 o’clock, she found him in a bedroom closet. She called help immediately, but it was too late.
Mr. Cammack was born on Sept. 12, 1887 at Iowa Falls. He was the son of Calvin H. Cammack. He married Hazel White and to this union one daughter, Pauline Cammack, a teacher in the Ames schools was born. He is also survived by four brothers and four sisters.
Mr. Cammack had been engaged in the garage business for the past 33 years. The Cammack garage is located on the east side of the main business street. A brother Leon Cammack is associated with him in the business.
Coroner Ralph V. Toland of Newton was called, but he said no inquest would be necessary.
No funeral arrangements had been made by this afternoon. The body was taken to the Boyd Funeral home here.
