Life Story Of John W. Wagner
Funeral services for John W. Wagner, 87, a lifelong resident of Jasper county, were held Saturday at the Monroe Methodist church.
The Rev. Orin Young, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Burial was in Monroe cemetery.
Mrs. William Lewis, the soloist, was accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Wayne Lubberden.
Pallbearers were Will Quick, John Throckmorton, Harold North, Roy Thompson, Tenis Van Wyk, William Den Otter and Lawrence Bruce.
John W. Wagner, son of Wendelin and Elizabeth Hummel Wagner, was born in Jasper county May 22, 1872, and passed away at Skiff Memorial hospital at Newton May 4, 1960 at the age of 87 years, 11 months and four days.
He was married to Emma Eggert of Newton on February 28, 1906 and to this union were born six children, three sons, Ernest and Earl of Monroe and M/Sgt. Ervin of Layton, Utah; and three daughters, Mrs. Emmet (Ethel) DeVries of Des Moines, Mrs. Paul (Irene) Allen of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Ernest (Florence) Warrick of Prairie City.
He is survived by his wife; six children; 11 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a brother, Frank, of Prairie City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters, two granddaughters and one grandson.
