Mary Beth Hoke (Willson) of Gilbert, Ariz. passed away on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at Chandler Regional Hospital. Memorial services were held on Jan. 20 at Sonoran Skies Mortuary in Mesa, Ariz.

Mary Beth was born on Nov. 10, 1935, in Morning Sun, Iowa to Maurice and Freida Willson (Baird). She graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1953. After high school she attended Monmouth College in Monmouth, Ill. where she received a degree in elementary music education and is an alumni member of the Kappa Delta Sorority, Beta Gamma Chapter. Mary Beth touched thousands of children’s lives teaching elementary music in the Newton school district for 28 years along with giving private piano lessons in her home and being a church youth choir director.

Mary Beth married Larry Hoke in 1957 in Morning Sun and they were happily married for 60 years. Mary Beth is survived by her husband Larry of Gilbert, Ariz.; her son David (Lynette) of Knoxville, her daughter Debbie Waterman (Glenn) of Hawarden son Bill (Cindy) of Tempe, Ariz., and daughter Becky (Drew) Segler of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two sister-in-law’s and four nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Laird Willson.

Memorial donations may be made to Newton Community School District, EJH Beard Administration Center, 1302 First Ave. W., Newton, Iowa 50208, Attn: Gayle Isaac, Memo: Mary Beth Hoke Memorial. TAX ID: 42-6023239. The funds will be used to enhance the district’s music program.
