John A. Ball, 90, of 3521 Highway F-36 West, died of congestive heart failure Sunday morning, Jan. 19, at the Woodward Health Care Center in Woodward.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton after 8 a.m. Tuesday where the family will be present from ^;30 to 8 p.m.

Memorials in his name will be accepted.

Born Sept. 21, 1906, in Putnam County, Ill., he was the son of William and Jane Vail Ball. He attended Putnam County Schools.

He married Elva Laverta Emmack March 21, 1936, in Newton.

A resident of Newton most of his life, Mr. Ball had also lived in Putnam County, Ill.; Minnesota; Hampton; and Reasnor. He farmed in the Newton and Reasnor areas.

Mr. Ball was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a former member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau and the Oak Ridge Grange.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Ray Teasdale of Ogden; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Ball of Sully; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 14 step great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Leland of Newton and William of Hampton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, who died April 14, 1994; a son, Robert; a brother, Durvin; and a sister, Elizabeth Hinman. ~ The Newton Daily News, January 20, 1997
