Death of an Iowa Soldier
John R. Bain died at Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Monday evening, and was buried Wednesday in that city.
Mr. Bain was a native of New York, went to Ohio in 1852, and the following year was united in marriage to Rachel Livingston.
In 1854 Mr. and Mrs. Bain moved to Jasper County and settled in Palo Alto Township, where they lived until some two years since, when Mr. Bain's mind became affected, the result of injuries received in the army.
To Mr. and Mrs. Bain five children have been born: Semica, who resides on the old homestead; Frank of O'Neil, Nebraska, and Freeman, who lives in the same state at Elgin, and two daughters who died in infancy. Mr. Bain served his country in Company E of the 40th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, and was receiving a pension of $30 per month. J. C. Livingston, his brother-in-law, went down to attend the funeral. ~ The Newton Record, Newton, IA, Friday, February 1, 1895
