Former County Resident Dies
Mrs. William Vanness Dies in Des Moines Thursday at Daughter’s Home.
Funeral services for Mrs. William Vanness, who died yesterday in Des Moines at the home of a daughter, Mrs. John C. Wert, will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock from the Palo alto church, with Dr. W. H. Blancke of the Lutheran church in charge. Interment will be made in the Palo Alto cemetery.
The body may be viewed at the Murdoch Funeral home until Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Vanness, former Jasper county resident is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Minnie McReynolds of Monroe; Mrs. Henry Mommer and Mrs. John C. Wert, both of Des Moines; and five sons, George Vanness and Burt Vanness of Monroe; Elvin Vanness of Sully; Vern Vanness of Newton and Virgil Vanness of Des Moines.

Caroline Martin, only daughter of John and Sarah Martin, was born Feb. 3, 1853 near Flemington, Penn., and died at the age of 79 years, one month and 21 days, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Wert in Des Moines March 24,, 1932 following an illness of two weeks.
At the age of 11 she with her parents and four brothers came to Iowa and settled on a farm near Reasnor where she made her home for 38 years. On Dec. 25, 1871 she was united in marriage to William Vanness and they continued to live on the same farm until 1902 when they moved to Arkansas where they made their home for 12 years. Later she made her home with her children.
Mrs. Vanness is survived by her eight children, Mrs. Sarah Wert of Des Moines, Mrs. Leotta Mommer, Virgil Vanness, all of Des Moines. Mrs. Minnie McReynolds, George and Bert of Monroe, Vern of Newton, Elvin of Sully, one brother, James Martin of Nebraska, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Stella Martin of Newton, 20 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Palo Alto church with Dr. W. H. Blancke, pastor of the Lutheran church in charge. Interment was made in the Palo Alto cemetery.
