Mrs. Dora Thompson, daughter of Daniel and Mahetabell Sanders, was born March 4, 1855, in Allen County, Ohio. When she was sixteen years of age she removed with her parents to Jasper County, Iowa, and settled on a farm in Buena Vista Township.

She was married in 1872 to Samuel A. Thompson, who survives her. The next year after her marriage she untied with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Mt. Zion, under the preaching of Rev. J. W. Robinson.

For ten years Mrs. Thompson’s home was in Monroe, but with her husband she returned to this city last November.

For many years she had been afflicted with rheumatism, and although she had been a great sufferer, she had been most patient and had borne her suffering with true Christian fortitude. Soon after her health failed, she went with her husband to Colorado hoping the change of climate would be beneficial to her health. Later she went to Hot Springs, in Arkansas, but there seemed no help for her suffering until death released her.

Besides her husband, she leaves her father, David Sanders, a sister, Mrs. Alex Davis, both residing in this county, and two brothers, Henry Sanders of Arkansas and Ansel Sanders whose home is in New Mexico.

The funeral was held at the Methodist Church in this city this morning at 10 o’clock, Rev. O. S. Baker officiating. Mesdames George M. Allen, Nona Knepper, and Messers Eugene Bean and Mark Moorman furnished the music, accompanied by Miss Lillian Miller. Those acting as pallbearers were: T. G. Russell, Ed Snyder, George Denniston, George Hart, Lawrence Denniston, and Mr. Guthrie. The interment was in the Newton Cemetery.

Friends from Monroe attending the funeral were: Mesdames C. C. Worth, Willard Jones, James McCracken, Misses Clara and Jennie Dehoot and John O’Connor. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Tuesday, April 10, 1906, Page 1, Column 4
