Mrs. J. W. Bailey died of typhoid fever in Chicago yesterday morning, November 27th, and the body was brought to Newton this morning for burial. Mrs. Bailey was the former Hattie Couch, born and reared to womanhood in this city. She was the elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Couch. Her father died in Colfax about a year ago. The remains were accompanied by the bereaved husband, the mother and the only sister of the deceased, ­ Mrs. Jennie McCalmont.

The funeral will be held at the home of Henry Sampy, Thursday at 10 o’clock. ~ The Newton Record November 30, 1899
