Sudden Death

Mary Allen, the 13 year old daughter of James Allen, of Baxter, died very suddenly Wednesday night at 11 o'clock of heart failure after an illness lasting only fifteen or twenty minutes. Miss Allen had been visiting all the afternoon, not getting home until eight o'clock in the evening, and up until the time she took ill had seemed as well as usual. Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church in Baxter today; interment in the Newton Cemetery. Six young girls, school and playmates of the deceased, acted as pallbearers. They were Susie Richards, Gladys Gilmore, Nellie Thompson, Alice Holmes, Ida Webb and Maude Thompson. ~ The Newton Record, August 31, 1894
