Richard Frederick Morton, Sr., age 76 of Mingo, died Saturday, December 30, 2017, at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will follow at Greencastle Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, January 5, 2018, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

The son of Ellis and Geneva (Miller) Morton, Richard was born on February 15, 1941, in rural Russel, Iowa. Richard served in the United States Navy. On February 8, 1965, he was united in marriage to Nelda Cherry in Des Moines. He worked as a machinist at Maytag for 25 years before retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Crow Tribe of the Improved Order of Redman, the American Legion and the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Richard loved fishing and woodworking.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Nelda; children, Jack (Becky) Morton, Greg (Heather) Morton, Christopher (Stacey) Morton, Richard Morton, Jr. and Dawn (Jeff) Gladson; 15 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Kintz and a brother, Bill Morton.

Preceding Richard in death were his parents, brothers, James, Joseph, and Robert; a sister, Catharine Henderson and two great grandsons, Peyton and Liam Sparks. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa 30 Dec 2017.
