That he came to his death by the excessive use of alcohol drinks was the verdict of the coroner’s jury over the body of Michael Bale, whose death occurred at the home of George Zahn, three miles north of town between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. yesterday.

Mr. Bale was in town Saturday and seemed as well as usual. He made his home with a brother, John Bale, who lives about six miles northwest. When he reached George Zahn’s place, three miles from Newton, he stopped and remained for the night, saying he was too ill to go home. Yesterday he got up intending to go on home, but instead laid down on a bed about 8:30 o’clock. At 10:30 a.m. when someone of the family went to the bedside, they found that he was dead. The coroner was called and the above verdict was given.

The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at 9 o’clock and the interment will be in the Catholic Cemetery, southwest of this city. ~ The Newton Daily News, Monday, March 26, 1906, Page 1, Column 2
