The remains of William Welch, who was killed by a Northwestern train near Marquisville Tuesday evening, and were taken to Des Moines, were brought to this city on No. 6 last evening by his brother, Charles Welch.

Mr. Welch, who has been working in the mines at Marquisville, came home Saturday to visit with relatives in this city. Tuesday he returned to Des Moines. The train he went out on went to Saylorville and he had to walk back to Marquisville to the home of the brother where he resided.

The trainmen say that he stepped off the track to let one train pass, but as it was storming hard, he did not seem to notice the second section that was coming directly behind the first train. It was the second train that hit him, breaking his neck and causing instant death.

The funeral will be held from the Sacred Heart Church tomorrow at 10 a.m. The interment will be made in the Catholic Cemetery. ~ The Newton Daily News, Thursday, February 15, 1906, Page 4, Column 1
