This morning about 6:45 as the section men were coming east on the Rock Island from Colfax when about a mile from the station they found the body of a man lying near the track. They took it back to the station where they learned that it was Harvey Stottler, a young man 21 years of age and son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Stottler of this city. He was taken to the Victoria Sanitarium where it was found that he had suffered a compound fracture of the skull extending from the crown to the base. His left arm was also ground off about six inches from the shoulder. He was unconscious when found and remained so until death, which occurred at 10:30 this morning. Young Stottler was seen at the station about ten o’clock and it is supposed that he tried to steal a ride on No. 6 or a freight, which came east about three o’clock. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Wednesday, November 22, 1905, Page 1, Column 1
