Lynnville Woman Dies at Age 73 in Daughter’s Home
Lynnville (Special) – Mrs. Jennie Thompson, lifetime resident of the Lynnville area who would have been 73 years old today, died at the home of her daughter, Catherine Thompson, in New Sharon early Saturday morning.
A prayer service for her will be held at the Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon tomorrow at one o’clock. At two o’clock funeral services will be held in the Friends church at Lynnville with Rev. F. W. Lemon officiating, assisted by Rev. Andrew Stuart. Burial will be in the Woodland cemetery.
Pallbearers are Marshall Meredith, Roscoe Sparks, Vern Ratcliff, H. A. Gause, Fred Wagaman and L. C. Brush. Music will be furnished by Mrs. H. A. Gause and Mrs. Will Allee, vocalists, and Mrs. Carrie Quire, pianist.
Mrs. Thompson was born in the Salem neighborhood Jan. 28, 1879, the daughter of John and Jennie DeBruyn. She was educated in rural schools there. She married Oscar Thompson Jan. 15, 1899.
She and her husband, who died two years ago, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1949. They had operated a café in Lynnville for many years.
Survivors include three children, Harold and Catherine of New Sharon and Charles of Brockton, Mass.; three grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Jesse Shaw, Lynnville; and three brothers, Ira of Oskaloosa, Will of Ottumwa and John of Quincy, Ill.
