Alice O’Roake, 82, Former Teacher, Dies Last Night
Miss Alice O’Roake, about 82, lifelong resident of Jasper county and for many years a school teacher in this area, died suddenly last night in a Des Moines nursing home. She had been in the home for about 15 months.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John O’Roake, she was born on the family farm three miles southwest of Newton. After spending most of her life teaching, she returned to the farm where she and her brother, James, lived for several years.
Miss O’Roake left no immediate survivors, although she has 17 nieces and nephews living in Des Moines and around Newton.
Her body is at the Caldwell and O’Brien Funeral home in Des Moines. Services are pending, but relatives say they will probably be held here in Sacred Heart church where Miss O’Roake was a lifetime member.
