Streeter Obituary
Mingo, Nov. 2 – Special – Thomas Ambrose Streeter was born in Luvern county, Pennsylvania on Sept. 15, 1840 and died at his home in Mingo on Oct. 29, 1928 at the age of 88 years, one month and 14 days. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Ashton chapel with the Rev. A. B. Kearn of Lake City in charge. Burial was in the Ashton cemetery.
He came to Eden, Ohio, in 1844 and in 1858 with his parents migrated to Iowa where they settled in Clear Creek township, Jasper county. He resided there for the remainder of his life with the exception of three years spent in Missouri, returning to Mingo 11 years ago.
He was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Stock on Feb. 7, 1860. To this union seven children were born, four of whom preceeded Mr. Streeter in death. They were Sarah Elizabeth and Ambrose, who died in infancy, Henry, who died at 3 years of age and Elizabeth, who died at 10 years of age.
Mr. Streeter was the last member of the E.H. Keyes G.A.R. post of Mingo and the next to the last member of the regiment with which he spent three years as a member during the Civil War, it being Company E of the 40th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He was honorably discharged at Fort Gibson in 1864.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Lydia Mills, Mrs. Emma Leonard and Mrs. Edna Fink, all of Mingo; two brothers, W. A. Streeter of Mack, Minn., and Monroe Streeter of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Mrs. Ella Snyder of Colfax; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Streeter was a member of the Three-Quarter Century club.
