Verna Sterling passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at West Ridge Nursing & Rehab Center in Knoxville at the age of 88 years.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 11 at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville.

Verna Elizabeth Sterling was born on September 3, 1925, in Leroy, Minnesota. She was raised in Minnesota and graduated from Leroy High School. She was united in marriage to Paul Sterling on January 10, 1942. The couple moved to Lovilia in 1944, and Verna began attending the Americana Beauty Academy in Des Moines. When Paul started working at Maytag, he moved his family to Monroe. Verna purchased the Carjuan Beauty Salon where she worked for many years. Verna enjoyed the outdoors, and spent a lot of time gardening, bird watching, fishing and camping. She also raised dogs. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children, Roberta (Dave) Schrader ofMonroe and Gary (Sue) Sterling of Melrose; brother, Rollie (Marguerite) Markle of Newton; brother-in-law, Homer Blickenderfer, grandchildren, Trina (Gary) Rudicil, Patrick Anderson, Joanna (Scott) Hewitt, Heather (John) Torpy and Melissa Lynne; and great grandchildren, Jeremy and Ryan Rudicil, Maggie Hewitt and Aiden Torpy.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Floy Markle; husband, Paul in 1987; son, LuVerne “Butch” Sterling; sister, Betty Blickenderfer, daughter-in-law, Barb Sterling; and grandson, Howard Troy Sterling.
