Edith Wood, age 93 of Monroe, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at Newton Health Care. Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe, with burial following at Fairview Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Monroe Fire Department or the Newton Health Care Center. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The daughter of Raymond and Ethel (Decker) Koder, Edith was born on December 4, 1919, in Reasnor. She graduated from Newton high School in 1938. On October 25, 1941, she was united in marriage to Bert Wood. Edith worked as a waitress Dawson’s Coffee Shop and telephone operator at the Reasnor Phone Company.
Survivors include her daughters, Sherry (Bill) St. John of Monroe and Deb Williams of Giltner, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Brett St. John of Prairie City, Jamie (Lisa) St. John of Newton, Jeremy (Emily) Gildersleeve of Cairo, Nebraska and Amy (Jim) Lesonik of Giltner, Nebraska; eight great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Mabel Sellers, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Edith in death were her parents, husband, two sisters, Dorothy Glascock and Irene Wheeler and a son-in-law, Steve Williams.
