Conduct Rites For R. W. Dodds
Funeral Services Held Sunday at Congregational Church
Funeral rites for Robert W. Dodds, 55, were conducted from the First Congregational church Sunday at 1:30 p.m. by the pastor, Dr. J. Irvine Walker. Interment was in the Newton Union cemetery, with the Oriental Commandery No. 22, Knight Templar, acting as escort from the church to the cemetery.
Music for the services included a quartet selected, “Come to My Heart Lord Jesus,” by Mrs. Elisabeth Miles Richmond, Mary Paullin, Richard Toedt, and Harold M. Finch, and a vocal solo, “Crossing the Bar,” by Mrs. Richmond. Mrs. Vera Trevits Scheel played the organ accompaniment.
Pallbearers
Pallbearers were Neal Hammer, W. H. Jasper, Bert Beatty, Clifford Lavender, E. D. Finch, and A. E. Hindorff, all members of the Congregational church board, of which Mr. Dodds was chairman. The floral tributes were arranged by Mrs. H. H. Morrison and Mrs. d. Irvine Walker.
Among those attending the services from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Morrison of Algona; William R. Dodds of Iowa City; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Skiff of Lake Villa, Ill.; Mrs. E. A. Kinsler of Davenport; Frank Temple and daughter, Mary, Mrs. Haliday, Mrs. Reed, and Miss Smith, all of Boone.
Also, Theron Rand and Harlow Brown of Dover, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Clark, Guy Dodds, and Mrs. F. E. Morris of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Schoenhut, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wieland, and Mrs. Banzoff of Marshalltown; Mrs. Emma Robison of Grinnell.
Mr. Dodds, resident of Jasper county for 30 years died Friday morning at the Skiff Memorial hospital as the result of a heart attack, suffered March 12.
Lodge Member
Besides being active in church work, Mr. Dodds was prominent in the Masonic Order, belonging to the Blue lodge, Chapter and Commandery at Newton, and also the Consistory and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine of Des Moines. He was also a member of Chapter No. 100, O.E.S.
Surviving relatives include his widow, Mrs. Minnie Dodds; a son, William Robert Dodds, senior student at the State University of Iowa; a step-son, E. R. Morrison of Algona, and a half-brother, Wheelock Abott of Roberts, Idaho.
