August P. Wendt, former resident, dies in Davenport
August P. Wendt, 76, of 3623 Lorton Ave., Davenport, a former resident of Newton, died Thursday at the Americana Health Center in Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Runge Funeral Home in Davenport.
Additional funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Wallace Funeral Home in Newton.
Dr. Richard Bentzinger, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Wallace Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Sunday.
Memorial contributions to the Davenport St. John’s Methodist Church memorial Fund will be accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Stella; a daughter, Jacqueline Stanek of Des Moines; and a grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Wendt was a member of St. John’s Methodist Church in Davenport and the Popular Astronomy Club in Rock Island, Ill.
Mr. Wendt, a retired radio station employee, had been an employee at the Maytag Co. before working for KVFD radio in Fort Dodge and KBIZ in Ottumwa. He went to WOC-TV in Davenport in 1943.
The son of August E. F. and Emma Prinz Wendt, he was born Aug. 5, 1904 in Newton and was graduated from Iowa State University in Ames.
He was married to Stella Bates in 1936 in Newton.
