Mrs. Schermerhorn Dies at her home On Sunday Morning
Mrs. James Cecil Schermerhorn, a resident of Jasper county almost all of her life, died at 12:40 a.m. Sunday at her home in Newton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnson-Murdoch Funeral Home with the Rev. Benson B. Compton, pastor of the Assembly of God church officiating. Burial will be in Newton Union cemetery.
Mrs. Schermerhorn is survived by her husband, James Cecil Schermerhorn; a daughter, Mrs. Max Mahon of Newton, a son, Edgar Schermerhorn of Newton, seven grandchildren and a great grandchild.
In addition she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ernest Whitted of Fairplay, Col. and Mrs. Guy Banks of Monroe; and eight brothers, James, John, Clyde, Clifford, Charles, Delbert and Edward Thomasson of Monroe and Loren Thomasson of Knoxville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lewis.
The daughter of John and Janet Thomasson, she was born on a farm in Marion county Mar. 11 (1887). Her first name was Jennie. After receiving her early education in Marion county schools, she moved with her parents to a farm near Monroe.
After her marriage to James Cecil Schermerhorn April 13, 1905, she moved with her husband to a farm near Newton, living there until 1915 when she moved to Newton. She has resided in Newton ever since.

Schermerhorn Rites Held here Today
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today in Johnson-Murdoch funeral home for Mrs. James C. Schermerhorn, 66, who died Sunday at her home here. Conducting the rites was the Rev. Benson B. Compton, and burial was in Newton Union cemetery.
Born in Marion county March 11, 1887, she moved before her marriage to a farm near Monroe with her parents. In 1905, she moved with her husband to a farm near Newton, and in 1915 she moved into Newton.
Organist for funeral rites was Mrs. R. L. Jackson and soloist was Mrs. Dan Hardenbrook. In charge of flowers were Mrs. George Huffman and Mrs. Lillian Cobbs.
Pallbearers were Roy and James Schermerhorn, Lloyd, Carl and Roy Thomasson and Joe Banks.
