J. C. Schermerhorn Dies at Hospital; Services Pending
Funeral arrangements have not been completed, pending word from two grandsons in the armed service.
Johnson funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Schermerhorn is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Max Mahon of Newton; a son, Edgar Schermerhorn of Newton; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. J. W. Richmond of Newton, three brothers, John of Des Moines and Arthur and Harold of California.
The son of James R. and Mary Schermerhorn, he was born October 11, 1879 at Jasper county.
Educated in Jasper county schools, he was married April 13, 1902 in Newton to Jennie Thomasson, who preceded him in death in 1953.
Mr. Schermerhorn was a farmer and house mover.
He spent his entire life in Jasper county.

J. C. Schermerhorn Rites Are Wednesday
Funeral services for James Cecil Schermerhorn, 80, of route 4, Newton, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson funeral home.
The Rev. L. H. Athey, associate minister of the Methodist church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Newton Union cemetery.
Mr. Schermerhorn, a life-long resident of Jasper county, died Saturday morning.
