Marie Gomez, 57, Dies on Tuesday; Services Friday
Mrs. Rumaldo (Marie) Gomez, 57, a longtime resident of Newton; died at 10 p.m. Tuesday at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Toland Funeral Home.
Major Ernest Stevens of the Salvation Army will conduct the services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.
Mrs. Gomez is survived by six sons, Raymond and Robert Gomez of Newton, Richard and Joe Gomez of Des Moines, Francis Gomez of Bellevue, Wash., and Lee Gomez, stationed with the Army in Korea; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Lucille) Dobbs of Newton and Margaret Gomez of Washington; 14 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
She is also survived by a step-sister, Mrs. Walter Henning of Kellogg; two step-brothers, Roy Donald Schermerhorn of Newton and Roy James Schermerhorn of Prairie City; and a step-son, John Gomez, of Dilley, Tex.
Mrs. Gomez was a member of the Salvation Army.
The daughter of Tom and Minnie Jacobs Balmer, she was born June 24, 1904 in Jasper County.
She was married Aug. 22, 1920 to Rumaldo (Milo) Gomez, who died Jan. 21, 1958.
